Hi, just curious about your plans. Are you just travelling around all over for the winter and then heading back to the States or are you looking for a place to settle permanently? Just being snoopy, I guess. Love your photos. Brenda
My original idea was to check out the Xico area to possibly buy a place there. I think I will still do that and then head west and then up the west coast of Mexico.
I think I got to this area of Mexico a little early in the season. I prefer cooler temperatures. Yesterday while driving, I had the air conditioning going.
OK, that answers my questions, thanks. It is still hot here too; although is much cooler than it was. We haven't used the A/C for a couple of days; but then we are used to it and even when we do have the A/C on we have it set at 28 C./83 F. (more or less). At that temperature most northern people would be complaining loudly about the heat! It is what your body acclimatises to. You will get accustomed to it and begin to enjoy it. The humidity is lower here now, which also helps. If you ever get to the west side and come through Guaymas, give us a shout and maybe we can get together for a drink, coffee, whatever. Happy travels. Brenda
Thanks for the invitation, Brenda. I will try to take you up on it. I have met and seen only two native English speakers thus far. One was a fellow from North Carolina on a Harley that I saw at the Pemex station in Gutierrez Zamora. Yesterday some fellow from Canada showed up here at Las 2 Palmas and Juan brought him over to talk. He said he was parked at Costa Esmeraldo and I guess he was just scouting out nearby places.
Gary, I guess you must mean the Xico around Veracruz as there are two Xicos in MX according to MapQuest. What attracted you to that city? It's not even on the coast. My wife and I did a circumnavigation of the Yucatan penisula a couple of years ago and were much impressed with Chiapas, if you're looking for something historical and on the water. It's also located fairly close to some of the best Mayan ruins. Robert in Houston
I got interested in Xico because of John Calypso's blog "Viva Veracruz". It sounded interesting, land is fairly resonable in price and it is at a 4,000 foot elevation which would mean cooler temperatures. I like being close to the ocean but the temperature is usually too warm for my liking.
Since you're from Huston, you are used to heat, humity and mosquitos. I have visited a good friend there and the only thing I liked about the place was the barbeque.
I'm a retired easy going guy. When I started this blog in 20006, I was preparing my RV to travel in search of adventure and perhaps a new place to live. The name of the blog was On The Road With Gary. I visited Lake Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico and decided to settle down.
I quit publishing the blog in 2008. I changed the name of the blog to Lake Chapala Expat.
